Weil Hall Life Sciences Project - A Cornell University-Percival Partnership

"Reducing the new energy demands from growth chambers"

Because of Percival’s leadership in the environmental growth chamber industry, Cornell University, one of America’s most respected educational institutions, asked for the opportunity to partner with our team of engineers to develop the next level of chambers.  Cornell was searching for a chamber that would utilize their advanced technological use of lake water to heat and cool buildings on their campus.

Impossible?  Not for Percival Scientific.

Percival designed and manufactured 36 growth chambers which employ a water system to regulate the temperature of the chambers without sacrificing performance.  The chambers cover 4065 square feet in Weil Hall Laboratory, one of only six laboratories to be Gold certified by LEED.

A system of coils uses cool water from an adjacent lake to the laboratory to lower the chamber temperate and warm water from the university’s power plant to raise the temperature.  The lasting effect of this new technology is the ability to reduce energy costs and new energy demands on our environment.

Our engineers are happy to discuss how this type of technology may be part of your next chamber design.  Contact us today at 1.800.695.2743.

Percival's WeatherEze, the next generation of chamber control software, is the result of a cooperative research and development agreement (CRDA) with the United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service to incorporate their research on environmental simulation models into  chamber control software.
